J-1 Waiver programs for physicians under fire
The Delta Regional Authority and Appalachian Regional Commission are two little federal agencies unknown to most Americans. But they provide critical economic development support to poor regions of the country. They also each have a J-1 waiver program to get doctors into many of the worst shortage areas. It was deeply disappointing to learn that some in the White House want to get rid of these agencies as part of the new budget proposal. Advocacy is trying to protect this service.
