Healthcare: Mergers and Acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions in the healthcare industry have seen steady growth in the last few years and can include different, often surprising, groups that come together to provide additional services.   With the climate of change in the industry and many new opportunities presenting themselves, as well as old ways of doing things proving unprofitable, it is a time of many new mergers and acquisitions.

Actual merger and acquisitions can include a variety of organizations including hospitals, health systems, physician groups, pharmaceutical companies, payers and investors.  All have a vested interest in seeing the merger or acquisition succeed and prosper and each will have specific goals to achieve.

In structuring a merger or acquisition, it is important to have an attorney represent your interests.  In order to do that, they will spend time with you to determine what your concerns and liabilities are, as well as what you can bring to the table to become an asset to the transaction.  The legal documents that will result should contain language, terms and conditions that you both understand and agree with.   Working closely with an attorney, whether you are a large organization or small group, will help the complex process achieve the outcome both parties can profit from.
